Pukke fan describes punch

Cape Town - A female NWU-Pukke fan described how she was punched by a UCT rugby player following Ikeys' Varsity Cup win on Monday night.

UCT dramatically beat Pukke 39-33 in Potchefstroom, scoring three tries in the last five minutes to stun the home crowd at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds.

It emerged on Thursday that one of the UCT players was involved in an altercation after the game, and allegedly assaulted a female Pukke fan.

Irini Agathagelou, a 21-year-old beauty therapy student at the Potchefstroom Academy, said on Facebook she suffered concussion and needed five stitches in the face after being punched.

She said she was at a Wimpy restaurant when she saw the UCT player, whose name is known to Sport24, and his friends assault a Pukke player.

Agathagelou said she tried to intervene but the man threatened to hit her.

A video about the incident was released on YouTube on Thursday. It depicts a woman, presumed to be Agathagelou, continuously hitting a man on the head with her shoe. The man then responds by punching her in the face.

"I continued to help my fellow Puk member and then the UCT player gave me a right hook in the face," she was quoted as saying in the Cape Times.

"He tried to hit me again but someone stopped him. We have video proof and witnesses. The video clearly shows the attack on me and the (Pukke) player Edmar Marais."
