Johannesburg - Springbok prop CJ van der Linde has joined the Lions on a two-year contract from rivals Western Province, the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) said on Thursday.

Van der Linde, on duty with the Boks on their Tri-Nations tour, would officially join the Lions on August 1, the union said.

His contract would end on October 31, 2013.

"CJ comes with a wealth of experience and has tremendous value to add," said Lions coach John Mitchell.

"I'm really looking forward to working with a player of CJ's calibre and experience.

"I've always believed in developing youngsters as part of the expansion process and exposing them to experienced mentors such as CJ."

GLRU chief executive Manie Reyneke was also pleased to sign the former Cheetahs player.

"It is no secret that we've been speaking to CJ for the past few weeks," Reyneke said.

"We are both honoured and humbled to have a player of his calibre and vast experience joining the Lions."

      watalife - 2011-07-21 13:51

He should have moved some time back and saved us the costs.

      jk - 2011-07-21 13:58

agree hansie- he was never on par

      Jock Strap - 2011-07-21 14:17

now if you can just get rid of Brock, Wicus and the two might be able to assemble a tight five

      thumper - 2011-07-21 14:45

As a WP supporter I know all ex rugby players end up at the Lions.

      JJKepler - 2011-07-21 14:50

Paulus - Now your scrum can go backwards too!!!!!!

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-21 15:02

No thumper, the only reason he left was because he knew he still had some rugby left in him. He saw the light, unlike Habana and Jantjies.

      Logoll - 2011-07-21 17:30

Ja Paulus as WP supporters we also know what it feels like to win games, unlike you and the other two Lions supporters.

  • Serias - 2011-07-21 14:15

Rumours have been rife since he played overseas already, doesn't like to play that much, likes to feign injury. He's nickname overseas was "Bench" vd Linde!!!!

  • Raeez - 2011-07-21 14:21

@ Bulldozer, normally when somebody follows a light down a tunnel its not a good sign. It means the end has come! seem very tense there?

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-21 16:45

      standoff - 2011-07-21 16:58

Bulldozer (Ace/Lloyd) is an apprentice breakdown operator who sits next to the N1 in Parow in his bakkie 24/7. His only company is his laptop and news24. Every now and then he wonders of to check for responses on “dating buzz’.............

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-21 17:33

How do you know ''dating buzz''? By the's not my bakkie.

      STEELEYE - 2011-07-21 17:37

Bulldozer, you never win against me, I am always 5 steps ahead .... now, off you go, be a good boy, listen to the radio for the next accident.

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-21 17:53

What do you mean five steps ahead, sparkles?

      AjAxxxx - 2011-07-22 10:15

I think bulldozer is an ADT guard on watch. He's chilling somewhere in Pretoria now in a suburb. In his van. With his younger brother's old laptop. Ahh the good life.

  • Bandleader - 2011-07-21 19:33

Glad to see the back of this tub of lard. He was overrated in 2007, and he's never lived up to expectations at the Stormers. How is he on the Bok bench with his lack of form? Lions, you got a bad deal. CJ's crap; past his prime for sure. Then again, your management know about bad deals, don't they?

  • Johan - 2011-07-21 20:39

glad cj signed with lions he will make a difference . sure the lions dont want habana and jantjies , the lions going to show the other teams how to play the game this weekend specially wp

You go girl!
