Div in trouble over Bees gaffe

Craig Ray - Times LIVE

Johannesburg - Peter de Villiers is expected to face a disciplinary hearing after his statement that the Springboks are 100% behind murder accused Bees Roux.

The Bok coach, appearing to speak on behalf of the players ahead of Roux's bail hearing in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday, said: "The team supports him 100%, not on the deed, but rather on the circumstances that led to the situation developing."

Several of the current Springboks are Bulls team-mates and friends of Roux, who was arrested in the early hours of last Friday morning for the alleged murder of a metro police officer in Pretoria.

According to SuperSport's Brenden Nel, De Villiers seemed to imply that a misunderstanding could have led to the event, and felt there were other parties who were trying to use the Roux situation to hurt rugby and the Boks in particular by creating stereotypes about what rugby players are.

“People are ugly outside, they’re dirty and they try and use everything to stop us bringing hope to the people out there,” De Villiers said.

Roux was granted bail of R100 000.

De Villiers's remarks have provoked indignation and anger, but SARU president, Oregan Hoskins, said: "I have no comment to make at this stage, but I have seen the comments Peter made. I want the team to focus on Saturday's Tri-Nations game against Australia in Bloemfontein."

But The Times has learned that De Villiers might face charges of bringing the game into disrepute.

A senior rugby official said: "We are not only unhappy with what he said regarding the Roux incident, but also over his previous comments."

Aai ou oom Div, wil jy nie maar eers dink voor jy iets se nie? Ons weet julle ondersteun Bees; dit was nie nodig om met die media te praat nie.

  • Guy Sharks fan - 2010-09-01 10:53

Can this clown not keep his mouth shut, geeeeezzzzzz. Stay out of these things

  • GT - 2010-09-01 10:55

Excellent - kick him in the goolies. I thought I saw PdV sposoring bread when I visited SPAR this morning, but when I went closer I read the label said 'THICK CUT" No one even asked him about BEES - he came up with this rubbish all by himself.

  • Mary - 2010-09-01 10:57

Peter de Villiers seems to open his mouth just to change feet! Apart from his rididulous utterances, he desperately needs speech therapy -his whimpering voice is such a put off!

  • Raz - 2010-09-01 10:58

Poor guy, no matter what he does, he's always in trouble :) PDivvy should rather stay away from press conferrences and fix the trouble the Springboks are in...clearly public speaking is not for him, he could be a much better coach...

  • Muppett - 2010-09-01 10:59

This just proves that the SA coach is a muppett. I suppose SA supporters will blame this disciplinary hearing on the big bad bullies of NZ and Aust again. I say lock the mongrel up for life.

  • deon - 2010-09-01 10:59

    About time.

  • Pire - 2010-09-01 10:59

Div can say f@#k the springboks, and still he wont be fired, so I dont know what the problem is here. But I have to agree with Div regarding Bees. Being stopped by 3 cops at that time of night and then they make off with his wallet and the 3rd drives off away from the police station...maybe on his way to dispose of the witness...I believe Bees acted on a threat caused by that police man. The truth will come out and then just more egg on the police's faces. Wonder how much cash was in the wallet

  • herman - 2010-09-01 11:00

PDV is the current coach, granted, but can SARU PLEASE appoint a media Liason officer, and instruct Mr De Villiers to ONLY talk about the Springbok team and selections. The overseas media is right: PDV is 'n donnerse clown. To look at his antics or listen to his comments are much much better than Prozak!!! - if you allow yourself to consider it "funny"

  • just saying - 2010-09-01 11:02

div, you really make things hard for yourself. is it possile for you to keep your foot out of your mouth at all. is it so difficult to say 'no comment at this stage'?

  • Abrey - 2010-09-01 11:04

Why cant PDV not keep his mouth shut? SARU must give him a helluva klap so that he can speak on issues which concern rugby only. This guy is a real idiot when it comes to commenting. PLEASE SARU HELP US AND HIM AND HIS FAMILY AND HIS FRIENDS AND HIS NEIGHBOURS AND THE OPPONENTS EN ALMAL, ASSEBLIEFTOGGIE.

  • andre - 2010-09-01 11:05

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand nothing going to happen to him.

  • Handogg - 2010-09-01 11:05

Ai Div. Here we go again. Same circus, different tent. Stop being a politician and start being a rugby coach.

  • THE MAN - 2010-09-01 11:07

it just goes to show how racist the sprinbucks actually are protecting a white cold blooded rugby player rather than showing compasssion to a black man of the law....i find this disturbing and disgusting indeed....when the court case starts the ANCYL will be there in numbers suporing the black man family we will demand a life sentence of at least 100 years in jail...we want this "Bees" we want him give him to us we demand it....amandla

  • Masilo - 2010-09-01 11:07

Peter must face the music, where the hell does he get this perception that people are trying to create steroetypes about rugby players. A black person is dead and all he can say is to take sides. I have indicated long time ago that this man is not a black person. The fact that we have a first black person as a rugby coach in SA is wrong. This man is not black and he is racist, period!!!!

  • Rugbynut - 2010-09-01 11:09

    What a Chop!!!

  • Mariaan - 2010-09-01 11:11

Please everyone GROW UP. Why does there always have to be slandering either way. Something happened that shouldnt have. We cant judge from either side. Its not for any one of us to judge anyone. Not Bees, Div or the Metro-cops. Grow Up and leave peoples personsal opinions to them selves.

  • Peter - 2010-09-01 11:11

When is SARU going to dump this clown? He is a complete embarrassment with an opinion on everything. What about a word of sympathy to the deceased man's family?

  • dronkie - 2010-09-01 11:12

I support Peter on this one..

  • Norman - 2010-09-01 11:13

This coach is a complete moron, but then again just look at his BEE appointed boss - Dreamy Hoskin's.

  • Steve - 2010-09-01 11:14

    Another pearler from P Divvy.

  • Max The Mixer - 2010-09-01 11:15

It is a known fact that De Villiers' s future as Boks future is uncertain. The whites no longer want him and he knows it all too well. Now he is saying all this K**k to try and appease them and save his job.HE knows most of them approve of the cold blooded murder lf Johannes Mogale.

  • GVA - 2010-09-01 11:15

He cant help it he just opens his mouth and his foot is in it!! SARU hired him they must take the blame!

  • aa - 2010-09-01 11:16

Time for PdV to go. He is an embarrasment to SA.

  • Jez - 2010-09-01 11:17

This guy surely suffers from "Foot in Mouth" disease!!!!

  • stefmeister - 2010-09-01 11:17

Please just use this opportunity to get rid of this idiot. He patronises everyone wherever he goes. First the 'whites' because they can't accept a non-white coach. Then condoning dirty play, making assumptions of 'match fixing' and then the rugby public who critises his team selection and hasbeen players. Who is this idiot and now claiming sa rugby is 100% behind an alledged murderer. For f*ck sake's, focus on your job you useless clown. Just please tell me why on earth you had to publicly announce your support? Do it in person. you're not scoring any points here from anyone, only infuriating and causing division amongst supporters. Go join the damn ANCYL where you can say all the stupid things in public the you can think off getting past that hideous snor of yours. Can't wait 'till next year after RWC regardless if we win or not, cause I can't see him being re-elected again. And no, its not because you are not white, it's because you are stupid and ridicule everyone.

  • johnBoy - 2010-09-01 11:18

this man needs to go. he's an idiot and is bringing SA into disrepute, never mind the Springboks

  • BBBF - 2010-09-01 11:19

What about the brother who in the court shouted that he will get Bees mother - is that not hate speech????????

  • Andrew - 2010-09-01 11:19

*sigh* Seriously, if they won't fire him, can they at least shut him up?!

  • MJ - 2010-09-01 11:19

Can you imagine R. Deans or G. Henry defending a S14 player who was accussed of murder. No. But since PdV has also gotten away with murder - by turning SA rugby into a laughing stock - its entirely understandable.

  • TT - 2010-09-01 11:19

"People are ugly outside, they’re dirty and they try and use everything to stop us bringing hope to the people out there,” De Villiers said. This chap needs serious thinking before making utterances. That type of statement could easily have caused people to perceive the National Rugby side as inconsiderate and out of touch with what people are trying to build in South Africa.

  • Oupa - 2010-09-01 11:26

The mut must go... SCREW HIM! Not even the Bulls coaches said anything about the Bees saga. This man speaks too much for his own good.

  • Vica - 2010-09-01 11:26

"Roux has been granted R100 000 bail but will remain in detention until he is able to pay" HELLO Mr Graig Ray !!!!!! He walked out of that courtroom the very same day !!

  • WHEN? - 2010-09-01 11:27

I am afraid this is the last straw. How much more can we as a country tollerate this man. He is a disgrace. Not only is he a poor rugby coach but he is a public relations time-bomb. Please do something about him.

  • Mike Malone - 2010-09-01 11:28

Poor Div just cant win there are too many agendas here,he shows support for a player and he is in trouble if he doest support Bees then he is a racist, what he said is his opinion which he is entitled to and these are allegations against Bees nothing proven yet so he is innocent till proved guilty lets all grow up

  • kitchenboy - 2010-09-01 11:31

@ the man; well you must be the man since you seem to know all the facts about what happened that night, or is the fact that Bees is white mean he is a cold blooded killer as you stated, here is a novel idea why dont we all wait for some facts before we drag the same old racism card out again. or maybe you wont let the facts get in the way of your idea that just because someone is white they must automatically be racist killers

  • Boertjie - 2010-09-01 11:31

ENOUGH now of De Villiers. We have far more pressing issues to deal with than reading all of this crap the press reports on a daily basis about this man. We know what time he gets out of bed, what he says to his wife. He has become the object of bad reporting. These bloody press reporters are to blame for his bad image. I'm not saying he is any good, but for goodness sake get something else to skinner about everyday.

  • Blou Bul - 2010-09-01 11:32

Here's a suggestion..... They gonna fire his ass at some time. Perhaps he can then become a script writer for Nandos adds!!

  • @ THE MAN - 2010-09-01 11:33

I am keeping your comments until the court case. I would love to know why the cop was driving his car and who bought take-aways with his credit card after his arrest.

  • Freddie - 2010-09-01 11:35

Can someone please fire this guy - he has no qualifications for the post, and he proves it every week. If he was in my business he wouldn't have lasted a month, there again, he wouldn't have got the job in the first place.

  • Dries - 2010-09-01 11:35

The comment of Max The Mixer : HE knows most of them approve of the cold blooded murder lf (of) Johannes Mogale, must be removed from this website. No white, black, coloured or indian people will approve a cold blooded murder.Lets rather follow what Mariaan said. A positive from PdV is that he will stand by his team whether it is Bakkies or Schalk or if somebody is losing form. Lets give him credit for it. Lets leave it to the court to decide on Bees Roux.

  • Captain Black - 2010-09-01 11:36

What an idiot...this guy really pisses me off. The family of Mr Mogale have lost a father and all he can mumble is something so utterly stupid, so devoid of intelligence. That 'MURDERER' doesn't even paly for him. ...Ja I agree dude is not Black. I remember his comments about the World Cup that he doesn't watch and doesn't care. He is an embarrasment to himself.

  • Rugby - 2010-09-01 11:37

What a twat Snorre is. I quote " People are ugly on the outside" Is that the rest of mankind or just this brainless IDIOT. But then he is part of the quota system. And " THE MAN " should learn to spell. Dumb F#$K

  • Jo mase .... - 2010-09-01 11:39

@ The Man - Ons is so gatvol vir die rassistiese issues wat julle altyd op bring. Once again its about race, comletely forgetting the whole senario. ANCYL???? Wie de M@er gee om oor hulle. Los jou simple pre 1994 houding voor jy weer hier tik, want al wat jy doen is jy maak jou naam g@t!!

  • Pop Idol - 2010-09-01 11:39

Not only is PDV a world class coach but his also turning into a true statesman...This BEES thing is extremely suspicious...A cop died and after he was killed, someone used BEES's card....If i was PDV i would also stand up for BEES...Well done Pdv for having the courage to say this even though all the muppets would respond negatively towards you..Well done ,give the man a Bells.

  • Koos - 2010-09-01 11:41

Baie van die spelers in die Bok groep is spanmaats, kennisse en vriende van Bees. Waarom mag hulle hom nie ondersteun nie? Daar is nog glad nie beslis wat aanleiding tot die saak gegee het nie.

  • The Man is a Witte - 2010-09-01 11:42

You were rejected as a child now you try and stir on these sites. Do yourself a huge favour, drop your head into the *hit bowl and pull the chain.

  • @ The Man - 2010-09-01 11:43

A cold blooded killer you say, typical insight of a black south african, what about the "men of the law" that are involved in bribery, theft and murder, why didn't the deceased make the necessary arrest according to the law. What about the poor white farmers that get murdered daily, all the other attacks on the white people too. I would like to face you in the ring and f$#@ you up good and solid, treat you like the asshole you are, in time to come you and all your comrades will be driven into the sea, go and screw your own nation over idiot.

  • Cobus - 2010-09-01 11:43

The statement was unasked for. Managment of National Teams should think twice. I agree 100% that Div should explain and withdraw statement.

  • Pat Stevens - 2010-09-01 11:45

As I warned in a previous post the Bees Roux case is now Sub Judice, which means it is now subject to the law, so it is illegal to comment on it. The Sub Judice law is not strictly applied in South Africa, because trials are judged by judges and not juries, and judges are not easily influenced by press commentary. Nevertheless even the Supreme Court of Appeal, quoted a false newspaper headline in their summation of the Schabir Shaik trial, this is the reason the press claim the Sub Judice Rule is outdated and they want it scrapped. If the newspapers are allowed to speculate freely on court proceedings, they will in fact control the law and society, this is why the government want to set up tribunal. A Media Appeals Tribunal with representatives from civil society is a good idea, but the Protection of Information Bill is a piece of draconian communist legislation, and despite what Raymond Louw may think in its present form it will never pass constitutional muster.
