D-Day for injured Boks

2011-07-13 14:21

Cape Town - Johann Muller and Heinrich Brüssow will undergo final fitness tests on Friday before a decision is made on whether they will have recovered sufficiently to take part in the away leg of the Castle Tri-Nations Series. The team departs on Friday evening.

Both players undertook some light running during training on Wednesday but have been given more time to prove their fitness. Muller has an injured hamstring while Brüssow’s recovery from a knee injury is being conservatively managed.

Prop forward Coenie Oosthuizen took a full part in Wednesday’s training, having recovered from an ankle injury.

The Springboks play their first match in the Castle Tri-Nations against Australia in Sydney on July 23.

  • Anneleen - 2011-07-13 14:56

Best of luck to the players for the fitness test...may you take part in the Tri-Nations!

hamstrings are just a big downer,if it tears u get to be out of action for about 6 to 8 weeks, and then the slip could possibly tear again when over stressed.and then same process takes place,6 to 8 weeks out of action.not good

  • Quintin Bruwer - 2011-07-13 15:06

Lets go Brussow it is about time that a Springbok put MCaw and Pocock back in their boxes seeing as nobody else can do it!!!

To rush Heinrich back now is plain stupid (given his latest injury woes) Rather let him play CC for while to get match fit. We need a fit and hungry Brussouw in our WC squad.

  • Barry Edwards - 2011-07-13 19:04

I agree with The Fox. IF goes into the Tri Nations at most have him on the bench, if at all. Brussouw is a key player for the world cup. I am sure we all agree on that.

  • Kleinboet - 2011-07-14 14:10

I hope both will pass the fitness testing and go on to play injury free rugby. We need them. I am worried about Brüssow, though. You can be very good but injury ridden and then you are no good to the team. He needs to prove rather sooner than later that he is over his injuries.
