Cape Town - Flank Juan Smith is the only injury concern in the Springbok camp following the weekend’s last-gasp 22-29 loss to the All Blacks at the FNB Stadium.

Team doctor Craig Roberts reported at a press conference at Loftus Versfeld on Monday that Smith has an abdominal muscle strain sustained in the first half of the Tri-Nations match. Smith did not take part in the training session on Monday morning and is receiving treatment for the injury.

Roberts added that he was confident that Smith would recover in time to be considered for selection for this weekend’s clash with the Wallabies. The team will be announced on Tuesday.

“There are a few guys with a bumps and bruises but that was expected after such a physical Test. We are fortunate that we have only one injury concern,” Roberts said.

“There were reports that JP Pietersen had an injury but these are completely incorrect and he took part in the full session this morning,” he added.

Hope he is ok since he was a power house on Saturday. Shame he was subbed when he was....but that is PdV for you.

  • Jacques - 2010-08-23 14:24

If Juan Smith is not gonna play,we are gonna loose again against the Aussies..the other available loose forwards are just not good enough at Test level..there is not another nr 7 who carries the ball so well, and is so aggressive in the defense than Juan,as well as the fact that he is a big line-out asset..Together with Schalk they are a good team on the flanks..

  • Genuine Springbok - 2010-08-23 14:30

Juan has character and easily the best springbok forward on the field. Let's pray he is able to pray.

If there is nothing wrong with JP Pietersen why did he not defend the last try properly? I don't even want to mention Habana's rubbish defence strategy!

  • StuartW - 2010-08-23 14:36

It might be that this was the reason why he was subbed.....hope he can play on saturday

  • JanDieMan - 2010-08-23 14:37

If JP is not injured, he should be dropped. He has then either lost pace or is totally unfit. I am sure Dagg is very fast, but JP could not even attempt to hall him in when the AB's scored that final try.

  • Colin - 2010-08-23 14:38

How can you make a statement like that @UK Bok Supporter after reading that he was injured! He had to be subbed and maybe played on too long

  • UK Bok supporter @ Colin - 2010-08-23 14:46

Point taken :) I still hope he will be ready for action this Saturday as he was clearly a froce to be reckoned with against the AB's

Juan for Captaincy 2011. John you an amazing man, ambassador but you tired buddy - Hang up those Boots! P Divvie - PLEASE GO!!!!

I sat in the staduim and watched this game and my man of the match hands down was Juan Smith. He broght a complete new energy to the pack ad his fringe play was excellent. Bryan Habana should be shot for comming off his line yet again and in many ways costs us the match. Morne Steyn can t make mistakes like he did kicking a penalty over the deadball line, not at this level??. Piere Spies yet again is not the player he is made out to be and is in my opinion at best a good impact player, he has gone 4 tests without showing any of the skills that got him in the team in the first place maybe he needs a rest. Francois Hougaard had a fantastic game and so too de Jongh. With regards to the Allblacks last try, there was no way in hell JP was going to catch him on the re treat and he should not be blamed for what was a defencive error beyond his control. The reason the boks lost this test is 2 fold, 1. Fitness and 2 . Looking after your posession, you cant turn over posession like that and expect to win test matches.

Good player but way too injury prone to build a team around.

  • Springbokkies - 2010-08-23 15:01

  • trevor - 2010-08-23 15:04

why could jp pietersen injure himself permantly

  • Pielle - 2010-08-23 15:09

Juan Smityh needs to lose some hes slow.

  • Danie - 2010-08-23 15:12

@ Jacques, now we just need to get spies dropped. He's a K@k player, possibly the biggest loose forward, yet he's the biggest princess on the field. We need a 8th Man that carries the ball, oh i know of one, Duane Vermeulen. The bok management must build a 'young' team for the world cup - or keep players that can play high tempo rugby.

  • Tito - 2010-08-23 15:14

PdV must stop using JW tactics and allow the senior players to run the team then maybe the Boks will win. It is clear that people knoqw what JW strategies are by now. It worked in the past but this season it is not working:-)

Moenie kom k*k praat van JP nie - wat van daai anne twee seker driee wat hy defend het. As dit nie deur hom was nie was ons n krieket score gegee...

  • CmnSns - 2010-08-23 15:40

Juan is brilliant. He was our best player in the World Cup and is still our most rounded loose forward. I am a Bulls fan BUT please replace Spies with Dwayne Vermeulen. Spies just isn't a natural forward. Or could Juan play at 8 when Heinrich Brusouw is back?

  • Roland - 2010-08-23 15:41

Pietersen could not get injured as he did absolutely nothing. He is supposed to be so fast, but did not even try to catch Dagg for the last match-winning try. Put Aplon on wing and Francois Steyn at fullback - awesome combination

  • Mark Stevens - 2010-08-23 16:07

JP was not injured, that's just how he normally plays ha ha. Get rid of him, Habana and Spies immediately, retire John Smit and then select a team on merit not suntan. Oh, and get a real coach not a Muppet.

  • hasie - 2010-08-23 16:09

JP het gespeel asof hy beseer was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Helium - 2010-08-23 20:24

Hy hoop Frans Steyn is ok, my liewe snorre, jy moet nie hoop nie , jy moet weet of hy OK is. Jy's die coach. Jy word nie betaal om te hoop nie. Dink jou aan Satredag se gamne was WC final en hy bring vir Januarie op veld.
