Boks need Os 'more than ever'

Cape Town - Former Springbok prop Balie Swart says the Springbok management are making a big mistake by not utilising Os du Randt as a scrum coach.

Swart believes the Boks need a scrum guru now more than ever. Du Randt was relieved of his duties as Bok scrum coach earlier this year due to poor behaviour on last year's tour to Britain.

"They need someone like Os. Especially now, with all the technical rules and things happening in the scrums. You need someone who can focus absolutely on that aspect of play," Swart told the Beeld newspaper.

Swart and Du Randt were the two Springbok props in the 1995 World Cup final when the Boks beat the All Blacks at Ellis Park.

The South Africans struggled in the scrums toward the end of Saturday's Test against Australia in Durban, especially when John Smit shifted to prop.

"John Smit must go along (to the World Cup) for the sake of synergy. But why are they playing him at tighthead?, said Swart.

Swart said he was very disappointed in the way the Bok scrum fared against the Wallabies.

"Two year's ago we scrummed them like that. If we scrum like that, I'll tell you what the All Blacks will do to our scrum," said Swart with a warned expression on his face.
