Cape Town – Coach of the Junior Boks, Dawie Theron will hope to reap the benefits of this week's training camp, currently being conducted in Kimberley, at the 2012 Junior World Championships, which will held on home soil.
Theron, who guided the Junior Boks to fifth place at this year’s JWC, will hope that the physical presence his team was accused of lacking in this year’s campaign will be forgotten.
“There is enough physical presence. I cannot think of any better way to put it. We have already seen that we have enough depth in all the positions. There were one or two surprises. It is a long conditioning process, but a good foundation has been laid. I am excited about what lies ahead,” Theron said in Thursday’s Die Burger.
Theron invited over 100 of the country’s top young talent to take part in the camp, which started earlier this week, and have already taken played in a series of trial matches which will conclude on Thursday.
“The heat had an influence on the first few matches and the forecast for the afternoon is also not favourable.”
Theron will cut the training squad at the end of the month to take part in more intensive training camp, scheduled to take place in Cape Town and he will hope to have a clearer idea of his combinations after the final round of trials.
“If we play earlier, then it is cooler and the players are at their best. We will only have two starting teams (for the practice matches), but we will substitute players from the onset of the game. We hope to play for 100 minutes so that we can look at the combinations.”
