SuperSport employee punched

Johannesburg - A senior SuperSport employee was so badly assaulted at the Free State Stadium (Vodacom Park) in Bloemfontein over the weekend that he had to undergo emergency surgery, according to a report on Monday.

Jacques van Schalkwyk, 44, live broadcast producer of the match between the Cheetahs and the Western Province, told Beeld that he and a friend had enjoyed a drink in one the suites before heading home.

"Someone punched me in the passage outside the suite, then kicked me," he said.

Van Schalkwyk cannot remember much about the attack, and did not see his assailant.

"There was no verbal exchange or argument. The guy appeared out of nowhere and attacked me."

He was later taken to the Life Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfontein, where he underwent an operation to repair his damaged bladder.

Van Schalkwyk said he would report the incident to the police later on Monday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
