WATCH: Not the first time Willemse & Mallett have clashed on air

Cape Town - A video has surfaced on social media showing Ashwin Willemse and Nick Mallett in a heated discussion in the SuperSport studios back in September 2014.

The footage, which was shot following South Africa's 24-23 loss to Australia in Perth during that year's Rugby Championship, shows Mallett and Willemse disagreeing on the recent performances of the Springboks.

Willemse starts by explaining that the recent displays from the national side had been sub-standard, before Mallett interrupts to back the record of then-coach Heyneke Meyer.

Willemse then hits back: "I'm not talking about the results ... the results is there."

Mallett, at that point, corrects Willemse's English.

"The results are there," he says.

Willemse continues making his point, and Mallett can be heard trying to interrupt on at least two more occasions.

On Saturday, Willemse, in a sensational move, walked off a live broadcast on the SuperSport set, accusing Mallett and fellow analyst Naas Botha of patronising him.

While it remains unclear what sparked Willemse's anger, suggestions are Willemse and Mallett in particular have clashed over the years while in-studio together, with the four-year old video below seemingly confirming that to be the case.

While Willemse, Mallett and Botha are rugby pundits and heated debate is part-and-parcel of their job description, the conflict, at times, appears to have turned personal.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
