Waratahs loosie signs contract extension

    2018-05-01 12:15

Sydney - Waratahs openside flanker Will Miller announced on Tuesday that he has re-signed with the New South Wales franchise until the end of 2019.

Miller, who is a dairy farmer, joined the Waratahs this season after making five appearances for the Rebels. He has played in seven matches for the Waratahs this season - two of those starts.

The 25-year-old is known for his specialist work as a fetcher at the breakdown and has expressed his delight with the extension, saying that learning from Michael Hooper will improve his game immensely.

“I am really enjoying being part of this environment and I am at a stage in my career where I am continuing to learn,” Miller said.

“I have decided to give myself another year to try and keep a starting spot, whether it's with two No 7s on the field or not. At the same time, I am going to get the best competition here with Michael and I believe it will make me a better player.

“I do enjoy working with our coaches as well. They give me a lot of technical and tactical feedback, from which I can only learn,” Miller added.

Waratahs assistant coach Simon Cron said Miller was a special talent.

“Will is a very competitive player who will compete to win in everything he does. He won’t take a backwards step at training so pushes everyone around him to get better,” said Cron, who coached Miller at the Norths Club in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

“He is a genuine threat in attack due to his footwork and speed and compliments this with a huge work rate. He is a very good on-baller so puts a lot of pressure on the opposition breakdown,” Cron added.
