Sydney - Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi penned a new deal with Rugby Australia and the Reds on Thursday, but only for one year.
The 24-year-old has been linked recently with the Brumbies, and only signing with the Reds until the end of the 2019 season could indicate a move to Canberra in the future.
"I'm excited to stay in Queensland for one more year, my family was a big factor in staying," said Kerevi, who cemented his spot in Australia's starting XV during their series against Ireland in June.
Reds coach Brad Thorn said he pleased to retain the "highly respected" centre.
"He has developed into a leader amongst the group and is highly respected within our squad," he said.
Kerevi is the latest in a string of Wallabies to sign new club deals, which ensures their availability for next year's World Cup in Japan.
Winger Marika Koroibete last week signed a fresh contract with the Melbourne Rebels, while young lock Izack Rodda committed to a new two-year deal with the Reds.
Australians based abroad are generally unable to represent their country, although the rules were relaxed in 2015 for senior players.
Those who have pulled on a Wallabies jersey more than 60 times and have held a professional contract with Australian rugby for at least seven years can now play abroad and for the national team.
