Cape Town - WP Rugby has reportedly offered Stormers assistant coach Paul Treu a retrenchment package.
Netwerk24 reported over the weekend that Treu met with WP Rugby CEO Paul Zacks and the union's president Zelt Marais last Wednesday.
At the meeting, Treu was given two options: a retrenchment package or to be redeployed within the union's structures and honour his contract.
An official announcement on the matter is yet to be made.
The Stormers, who were hammered 40-3 by the Bulls in their Super Rugby opener on Saturday, are yet to confirm their coaching staff for this year's competition, with Treu's role in particular unclear. He was the subject of much controversy towards the end of 2018 when he accused the Stormers coaching staff, led by head coach Robbie Fleck, of discrimination.
An independent review cleared Fleck and the management team of any wrongdoing, but it seems now that the relationship between Treu and his colleagues has soured.
Recent reports also indicated that the union's amateur arm was eager to make Treu the director of rugby, a role currently occupied by Gert Smal.
However this appointment appears to be unlikely, despite Smal's contract with the union expiring in October. It seems he may already have plans to move on, with reports earlier this month linking him to Jake White's Toyota Verblitz club in Japan.
