Cape Town - The Stormers players believe Siya Kolisi’s try against the Lions will be remembered as one of the season’s highlights.
The Stormers were disappointed with their 29-22 loss against the Lions in Johannesburg last weekend. The defeat cracked a positive tournament run, which included victories over the Brumbies, Jaguares, Sunwolves, Cheetahs and Bulls.
However, there was a memorable moment in the match during the second half, when Kolisi finished off an impressive team try in the 63rd minute.
Following a quick lineout throw from the touchline, Kobus van Wyk and Cheslin Kolbe started the first phase of the attack. Nizaam Carr then hit the gap around the fringes at the breakdown before off-loading to a charging Juan de Jongh.
De Jongh found Nic Groom in support and a quick pass to Kolisi put the flank one-on-one with Elton Jantjies, who was enjoying an amazing performance at flyhalf.
Kolisi then sidestepped the Lions flyhalf to complete an outstanding try.
Groom revealed that this received a great response from the players.
“It was a spectacular try. The guys were definitely raving about it as we reviewed the replays,” Groom told MyPlayers. “Siya has received a few chirps from the players during the week. He claims the sidestep was a fluke and he had no idea what he was doing, but we know the truth. Siya’s a very modest player, who has that ‘X Factor’.
“That moment will be remembered as one of the best sidesteps and tries of the season.”
