Cape Town - Springbok and Stormers lock Eben Etzebeth visited a specialist on Monday to determine the extent of his hand injury.
The burly lock broke his hand in last Saturday's Super Rugby clash against the Lions and was a spectator with his hand heavily bandaged at the Stormers' training session in Bellville on Monday.
More on the severity on his injury will be known later in the week, with Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus no doubt waiting with bated breath. Etzebeth has struggled with injury this year, with concussion and an injury to his calf ruling him out earlier in the campaign.
There is also doubt over the availability of lock Cobus Wiese, who injured his hamstring in the 41-22 defeat to the Lions at Ellis Park.
Pieter-Steph du Toit is also likely to miss this weekend's match against the Sunwolves at Newlands, but there is the possibility that Chris van Zyl could return from a long injury layoff.
The Stormers will need to regroup ahead of their final two home matches against the Sunwolves (Saturday, June 8 - 17:15) and Sharks (Saturday, June 15 - 15:05).
Victory in those matches will almost certainly book an unlikely playoff spot for a team currently rock-bottom of the South African Conference and 11th in the Overall standings.
