Cape Town - Cheetahs coach Franco Smith has heaped praise on the Stormers ahead of the two teams’ Super Rugby clash in Bloemfontein this weekend.
The Stormers were impressive in their first outing last weekend when they beat the Bulls 33-9 at Newlands.
The Cheetahs lost 34-33 to a Test-laden Jaguares outfit and according to Smith they are again the underdogs heading into Saturday’s game.
“The Stormers are South Africa’s leading team. They are physical and play good rugby. Added to that, they discover several talented players every year and we saw that last week,” Smith told Netwerk24.
Under new coach Robbie Fleck, the Stormers are a well-balanced and structured team, Smith feels.
“We are not underestimating any team in this competition, but like I’ve said previously, we want to play better every week. That doesn’t just count against the Stormers, but for every game.”
Despite Smith's praise, the Stormers will be wary of the fact that they'velost their last three Super Rugby games against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, with the Cape side's last triumph there a 13-6 win in 2012.
Saturday’s clash at Toyota Stadium is scheduled for 17:10.
