Sharks want Pietersen back for 2017

Cape Town - The Sharks are in discussions for utility back Joe Pietersen to return to Durban for the 2017 Super Rugby season.

The Durban-based franchise on Wednesday confirmed that Pietersen will join Japanese club, Kamaishi Seawaves, at the conclusion of the 2016 Super Rugby campaign.

He will therefore not be available for this year’s Currie Cup campaign, but quite possibly for next year’s Super Rugby competition.

“Joe has enjoyed a successful career and is keen to experience the rugby culture in Japan, and therefore he has asked to be released for the Currie Cup campaign, to pursue this new opportunity,” director of rugby told the Sharks’ official website.

“Discussions are currently underway regarding his possible return to the Sharks in 2017.”
