Sharks loss led to Super Rugby success - Boyd

Cape Town - Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd believes his side's 32-15 loss to the Sharks in Round 11 that sent them on a trajectory to Super Rugby success.

The Super Rugby winning coach says the loss made them re-assess their position on the table.

"I've got a strong belief that you can't grow culture. Culture grows itself so you've got to put in place the environment for that culture to grow," Boyd told Stuff.

"Post our pasting in Durban, where we really had to have a long look at ourselves.

"Despite the fact that there was lots of warnings around the distractions of Durban we fell into [enjoying] the coast, nice weather and we got that completely wrong and that really hurt.

"When we came back from Africa, when we looked at the points table, we realised we were probably already in playoffs [mode] football, so we constantly talked about providing a performance that gave us the to come back and train on Monday.

"We had a little thing going with the 'Stairway to Heaven' and the steps just kept going."
