Sharks back young guns for trip to Singapore

Durban - Sharks coach Robert du Preez has named a 25-man touring squad for their trip to Singapore ahead of their Super Rugby opener against the Sunwolves.

Du Preez has selected a strong side with a handful of youngsters who have put their hands up in the two pre-season matches against the Lions and Bulls.

No 8 Phepsi Buthelezi has impressed and continues where he left off - leading the Sharks Under 19s to SA Rugby Under 19 Competition success last year. He is joined by Kerron van Vuuren who has shown the ability and temperament necessary to play at this level.

Aphelele Fassi and Khutha Mchunu have Currie Cup experience and add depth to the side.

Utility back Curwin Bosch and centre Marius Louw, who were initially in the touring squad, stayed behind due to slight niggles.

Saturday’s clash at the Singapore National Stadium is scheduled for 12:55 (SA time).
