Rugby league star to join Super Rugby

    2019-12-03 10:32

Melbourne - Star rugby league wing Suliasi Vunivalu on Tuesday signed a two-year deal to switch codes and play for the Reds in Super Rugby.

The Fijian-born flyer played rugby union as a schoolboy in New Zealand before linking up with Melbourne Storm, quickly setting the National Rugby League alight with 72 tries in 94 appearances.

Now 24, the electrifying back is one of the game's most feared finishers after topping the NRL's try-scoring list in his first two seasons.

He is contracted to the Storm until 2020 and will move to the Reds in 2021.

"He's an impressive talent and has an awesome ability to find the tryline," said Reds coach Brad Thorn.

"He brings good experience too with almost 100 NRL games for Melbourne and 12 rugby league Tests for Fiji. Suliasi will be a great addition to our programme."
