Reds' Houston returns to Bordeaux

Bordeaux - Australian international forward Leroy Houston has signed a two-year deal with his former Top 14 club Bordeaux-Begles from the Reds, the French club confirmed on Tuesday.

Houston, 30, returns to the western French outfit where he played in 2011, but left after just one season after failing to convince.

The following season he moved to French Pro D2 side Colomiers, before heading to England for a successful three seasons at Premiership side Bath, playing 94 matches until 2016.

Since mid-2016 he has lined up for Super Rugby side the Reds and was called up once for Australia duty against Argentina in the Rugby Championship 2016.

The Reds confirmed that New Zealand-born Houston had been released from the second year of his contract at his request.

"Leroy has been a great contributor to the squad this year and while he has had injury concerns to contend with through the middle part of the Super Rugby campaign, we agreed to his request for an early release on personal grounds," said coach Nick Stiles.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
