Rebels release England-bound former captain Nic Stirzaker

Melbourne — The Melbourne Rebels have released former captain Nic Stirzaker, who will leave the Super Rugby team to play in England for Bristol.

After leading the Rebels for two seasons, Stirzaker joined English side Saracens in January on a short-term injury cover. However with test halfback Will Genia and ex-Western Force playmaker Michael Ruru now at the Rebels, Stirzaker decided his future was elsewhere.

"After ongoing dialogue between the club and Stirzaker's management, it has been agreed the scrum-half will remain in the United Kingdom after agreeing to a multi-year deal with recently promoted Bristol Rugby Club," the Rebels said in a statement on Friday.

Stirzaker played 60 matches for the Rebels.
