Pote could stay if Jake gets Bulls job

Jake White's potential appointment at the Bulls could save the job of current head coach, Pote Human.

Afrikaans newspaper Rapport indicated on Sunday that Human would not necessarily lose his job if White was appointed by the Bulls.

The report added that White rates Human as a coach and therefore would not fire Human if he is appointed as Alan Zondagh's successor as director of rugby.

Talks between White and the Bulls began last Monday, and while other names like Johan Ackermann and Johann van Graan have popped up as potential candidates, it appears White is in the pound seat.

"We haven't talked to Pote about his future, but he knows that we're talking to several coaches to appoint a head coach or director of rugby or a combination of both. We'd like finality on the matter at the end of March," Bulls CEO Alfons Meyer said.

The Bulls, who started their Australasian tour with a 41-17 defeat to the Reds in Brisbane on Saturday, have returned home after Super Rugby organisers suspended the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They were scheduled to play the Waratahs, Hurricanes and Chiefs over the next three weeks.

The touring squad will go into self-isolation for 14 days as a precaution following their return from Australia.

The Bulls are currently languishing in fourth place in the South African Conference and 12th in the Overall log.
