The arrival of Jake White at the Bulls has not been greeted with the same enthusiasm from all corners, a report indicates.

White was last Wednesday confirmed as the Bulls' new director of rugby until the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

A Bulls player, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Netwerk24 there is a lot of uncertainty regarding White's arrival.

"We heard about the Jake story the weekend before we toured and when he arrived back from Australia, he was appointed," the player said.

The Bulls had only started their Super Rugby tour with a 41-17 defeat to the Reds in Brisbane on 14 March before returning home after the tournament was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The player added: "I think the fact that we're in self-isolation is making the situation tougher. The biggest surprise is that it was suddenly announced that he'll be the head coach as well next year. No-one saw it coming. I can only think how surprised coach Pote (Human, head coach) and other coaches must be."

White will replace Human as head coach for next year's Super Rugby competition. The other members of Human's coaching staff include Chris Rossouw (backline and attack), Daan Human (scums), Pine Pienaar (defence) and John-William Meyer (technical analyses).

White won the World Cup with the Springboks in 2007 and also coached teams like the Brumbies (Australia), Sharks (South Africa), Montpellier (France) and Toyota Verblitz (Japan).

When the season was halted, the Bulls were 12th on the overall standings, having won just one out of six matches.
