    New contract for Nabuli

    2017-07-14 11:30

Dunedin - Queensland Rugby Union has announced recent Wallabies debutant Eto Nabuli will remain with the Reds after signing a new deal until 2018.

Nabuli is currently in his second season of Super Rugby, after joining the Reds from the National Rugby League ahead of the 2016 season.

The Fijian-born flyer has been in career-best form in 2017, featuring in every game for Queensland and leading the side for tries, with eight in total, including a hat-trick against the Force in Round 2.

Nabuli’s form in Super Rugby saw him rewarded with a Test debut against Scotland in the June Test window and he said he was pleased to remain in Queensland, where he has settled with his wife and young daughter.

"I’m happy to be with the Reds again next year. I’m happy here," Nabuli said.

"I’ve really enjoyed the season and my time with the boys and I hope we can grow again for next year and get some more wins."

Reds head coach Nick Stiles said: "It’s been great to see Eto come out of his shell this season and play to his potential.

"When he joined the Reds last season it took him a while to get comfortable back in Rugby, but he’s really hit his stride this year and is playing with a genuine enjoyment and that’s coming out in his performances.

"It's been a disappointing season in terms of results, but we've seen growth in the side throughout the year and we're building toward a strong 2018. Securing a guy like Eto for next year, along with a number of other talented, hungry young footballers across a range of positions helps us as we continue to work to get Queensland back to where we want to be."
