Durban - The Lions secured top spot on the overall Super Rugby log after beating the Sharks at Kings Park on Saturday.
The men from Johannesburg won 27-10, after leading 13-10 at half-time.
Following the Crusaders' loss to the Hurricanes earlier in the day, the Lions knew that a win in Durban would secure them the vital top spot on the overall log standings.
Saturday's victory means the Lions will host the Super Rugby final if they advance past home quarter- and semi-finals.
In next weekend's quarter-finals, the Lions will again play the Sharks - but this time at home in Johannesburg.
