Late Cooper penalty helps Reds sink Brumbies

Cape Town - The Reds completed a come-from-behind 80th minute victory over the Brumbies in their all-Australian Super Rugby clash in Brisbane on Friday.

As it happened: Reds v Brumbies

The Reds won 16-15 after they led 6-3 at half-time.

The Reds scored a single try by replacement Hamish Stewart and a conversion and three penalties by flyhalf Quade Cooper and overcame the second half sin-binning of veteran flank George Smith to pull off the upset win.

The Brumbies replied with a penalty try and a five-pointer from centre Kyle Godwin. Flyhalf Wharenui Hawera added a penalty.

The Reds picked up four points for their victory and moved to third in the Australian Conference.

The Brumbies picked up a bonus point for losing by seven points or fewer and stayed top of the Australian Conference.

In next weekend's 17th and final round of matches, the Reds travel to Dunedin to play the Highlanders (Friday, July 14 at 09:35 SA time), while the Brumbies visit Hamilton to face the Chiefs (Saturday, July 15 at 09:35 SA time).
