Sydney - Brumbies head coach Stephen Larkham has said that they are
keeping their focus on the season at hand before worrying about the development
of the team after that.
The Canberra side has suffered have a high player turnover count recently with a group of important athletes leaving the club for various reasons.
They lost Matt Toomua who left to take up a contract in England with
the Leicester Tigers, Christian Lealiifano who was diagnosed with cancer and
Robbie Coleman who joined the Force in Perth.
Larkham says at the moment he is focussing on introducing
their younger players into their systems.
"For me it's short steps... Making sure we're not
thinking too far ahead so I'm certainly not thinking about after the season
when we're just about to start it," Larkham told the Sydney Morning
Herald.
"We've had 13 new players come into the program this
year. Very similar (to 2012) in that respect, I think it was a young team and
we had a new captain come in for that period as well.
"There's a lot of similarities... Obviously there's
some senior players that have gone, but we've maintained the bulk of the squad
and I think those guys have learnt lessons over the last four years, five
years, that they will carry through to these guys coming through."
One of such youngsters is Zimbabwean-born Kyle Godwin who
joined the club from the Force for the 2017 season. Larkham says the young
utility-back has what it takes to succeed at this level.
"I think what you notice with Kyle is... he was over
there with us at the Wallabies and then had a period of time off through
December but hit the ground running.
"His skills were sharp, he's fit, his knowledge is top notch and you can see that he is ready to play Super Rugby in this team."
