Kriel hails Lions' fighting spirit

Cape Town - Lions captain Jaco Kriel praised his side's fighting spirit after their 44-29 victory over the Hurricanes in their Super Rugby semi-final in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The home side trailed the 2016 champions 10-22 at half-time but launched a stunning second-half comeback to clinch the result and in doing so set up a final against the Crusaders in Johannesburg next weekend.

"This is the best feeling I have felt in a long time," said Kriel.

"To see character come out like that from a bunch of guys that care for each other... I don't think I can explain the feeling of being on the field and being inspired by your own players like I was today."

Lions coach Johan Ackermann echoed his captain's sentiments and singled out the Ellis Park crowd for special praise.

"When the tries came we could feel the energy," he said of his team's passionate supporters.

"It was just an amazing day today."
