Kings scrumhalf goes under the knife

Cape Town - Southern Kings scrumhalf Rudi van Rooyen faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing ankle surgery.

Van Rooyen, who is nicknamed “Poerie”, was injured in last Saturday’s 37-23 win over the Sunwolves in Singapore.

Van Rooyen, 25, saw a specialist upon the team’s return to South Africa where it was decided that he needed surgery.

The Kings on Wednesday announced on their social media accounts that the surgery was successful but they now have a predicament at scrumhalf, as Louis Schreuder sustained concussion in the game against the Sunwolves.

Schreuder will also not be available for Saturday’s clash against the Stormers at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Ricky Schroeder and Johan Steyn are now expected to be the Kings’ two scrumhalves for Saturday’s game (15:05 kick-off).
