    Japan move for Chiefs star

    2016-07-05 11:48

Cape Town - Chiefs back Andrew Horrell has decided to take up a contract in Japan with the Coca-Cola Red Sparks in Fukoka at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old, who has proven to be one of the most versatile players in New Zealand rugby over the years, has decided to make a change.

Horrell is this season behind Charlie Ngatai, Seta Tamanivalu and Anton Lienert-Brown in the centre pecking order while Aaron Cruden and Damian McKenzie are ahead of him as fly-half and full-back options, meaning the Super Rugby winner has struggled for minutes in Hamilton.

"I made a decision that it was time for a bit of a change," he told Stuff.

"Obviously [there's] a few Japanese boys here, with Yama [Hiroshi Yamashita] and Leitchy [Michael Leitch], and they've been giving me the run down, and I'm really excited about it."

He added: "They get three or four months off, so that's probably a little bit key for me, with my body, I've had a few issues in the past, so hopefully I can get all those things right, and hopefully it might help my longevity."
