Jantjies heading to Worcester is 'fake news'

Cape Town - Worcester Warriors director of rugby Gary Gold has dismissed a report linking Springbok and Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies to the English club.

In an interview with Worcester News, Gold said a recent report linking Jantjies to his club was “fake news”.

An upset Gold said Springbok coach Allister Coetzee had sent him a text message asking whether they were after Jantjies’ services.

“I said 'no' because we are not,” Gold insisted.

“I am a big Elton fan. I think he’s an outstanding player, but he’s got a contract”.

Gold was recently named permanent director of rugby at Worcester, having joined them on an interim basis in January.

The 49-year-old committed to the role after leading the side to safety in the English Premiership.

Jantjies, who boasts 11 Test caps, currently plays for the Lions in Super Rugby, while he also represents Japanese club NTT Shining Arcs in the South African off-season.
