Ioane brothers commit to Blues

Cape Town - The Blues are set to be boosted by the contract renewals of Rieko and Akira Ioane, despite interest from New Zealand rivals, the Hurricanes.

Ahead of their clash at Westpac Stadium this weekend, 'Canes coach John Plumtree has admitted to attempting to sign Akira to his franchise.

However, it has emerged that both brothers have verbally committed to the Blues, which is a huge fillip after a tough Super Rugby campaign.

"They're both committed in terms of the last discussions we've had and obviously we're very happy about it," Tana Umaga told the NZ Herald.

"It's important to retain all the talent we have and those guys especially because they're playing well and mean a lot to our club and region. To get those nods from them is really positive for us as a whole."
