Injury worries for beaten Bulls

Pretoria - The Sharks weren’t the only ones to pick up injuries during their pre-season jaunt in Polokwane, as the Bulls also lost a lock during the match.

According to SuperSport.com, promising young lock Ashton Fortuin injured his AC joint during the game and scans on Monday revealed he will be out for four to six weeks.

The Bulls luckily have a lot of cover at lock, including Springbok Lood de Jager and the up and coming duo of RG Snyman and Jason Jenkins, as well as SA under-20 lock Ruben van Heerden among their ranks.

Two players missed Monday’s training because of knocks in the Polokwane game with Springbok Lizo Gqoboka (collarbone) and Travis Ismaiel (neck spasm) both sitting out and will resume training on Tuesday.

A bit of bad news for the Bulls is that another Bok Jamba Ulengo is still struggling with a chronic patella injury and has been referred back to the surgeon for a second opinion.

On the rehab front, Rudy Paige is making steady progress and should be back by middle of February, as well as Hendre Stassen and Corniel Els while the trio of Ivan van Zyl, Ruan Steenkamp and Jannes Kirsten are all expected to be ready by the middle to end of February.

The Bulls got their Super Rugby pre-season off to a horror start, going down 66-22 to a Lions side at Ellis Park and 31-14 to a Sharks side in Polokwane on Saturday.

This coming weekend the Bulls travel to Wellington in the Boland to face the Stormers, before opening their Super Rugby campaign against the Hurricanes at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, February 24 at 17:15.
