Cape Town - The Stormers have been dealt a major injury blow with the news that lock Chris van Zyl's Super Rugby season is over.
Van Zyl, who was a starter for the Cape-based franchise last weekend in a home loss to the Lions, suffered an injury to his left knee during the match and had to be carried off the field.
He confirmed that his Super Rugby season was indeed over after he had successful surgery earlier this week to repair the meniscus in his left knee.
"After a successful surgery to repair my left knee meniscus it brings my @SuperRugby season to a premature end and I will miss the remaining games for the @THESTORMERS. Thanks for all the messages of support. Return to play just in time for the @TheCurrieCup 2018 competition!" wrote van Zyl.
Van Zyl confirmed he will be back to full fitness for the Currie Cup competition, set to start in August.
