Cape Town - Jean-Luc du Preez is heading back to Durban after picking up an injury while in action for English club Sale Sharks, but how long he stays in South Africa remains to be seen...

Along with brother Robert, Jean-Luc, 23, linked up with Sale on a short-term contract after helping the Durban-based Sharks clinch the Currie Cup title last October.

Jean-Luc, who has 13 Springbok caps to his name, has been a regular starter for Sale and has impressed director of rugby Steve Diamond.

This past weekend Jean-Luc started as the Sale Sharks secured a 30-15 bonus-point win against Johan Ackermann's Gloucester, but suffered a groin injury that has now brought his stint in England to an end.

Sale confirmed via their Twitter page on Thursday that Du Preez would be heading back to South Africa.

However, Sale did drop a hint that they were hoping to see Du Preez return after Super Rugby: It's been a pleasure JL. Good luck with Super Rugby this year and we might just see you after! The #SharksFamily will be watching!

It’s understood that Sale are keen to see both Du Preez brothers return to the club.

Sale recently extended the contract of Springbok scrumhalf Faf de Klerk.

Jean-Luc said he had enjoyed his time at Sale.

‘It was an unbelievable time … They have one of the best team cultures I have had the pleasure of being involved with. They are an incredible bunch of lads, and I feel this is just the start for Sale.’

The Sharks begin their 2019 Super Rugby commitments against the Sunwolves in Singapore on Saturday, February 16.
