Human calls on Bulls to bully Hurricanes

    2019-06-19 15:12

Cape Town - Bulls coach Pote Human says they have to overpower the Hurricanes physically if they are to have any chance of winning their Super Rugby quarter-final in Wellington on Saturday.

"We'll have to be physical and bully them. If we fail in that regard, it will give their dangerous game-breakers room and freedom," Human told Netwerk24.

Human added that the Bulls' recent performances in New Zealand - when they claimed draws against the Blues and Highlanders - have given them confidence.

"There's no real pressure on us. Nobody expected us to play in the quarter-finals and I think that makes us dangerous. If we're sharp on Saturday and stay disciplined, then we could spring a surprise."

The Bulls will also welcome back Springbok centre Jesse Kriel, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury in recent weeks.

There was, however, also some bad news for the Bulls following their 48-27 win over the Lions, with centre Burger Odendaal unlikely to face the Hurricanes due to a collar bone injury.

Team doctor Herman Rossouw said on Monday that while Odendaal flew with the team to New Zealand, he but did not have high hopes on the player's availability.

Rossouw added that lock Jason Jenkins has recovered from a quad injury and will be available for this selection.

Schalk Brits has come through his concussion protocols but is currently battling flu, with the Bok hooker to be given time to recover from his illness.

The Bulls team will be named on Thursday, with Saturday's clash scheduled for 09:35 (SA time).
