Groom could line-up against Stormers
Cape Town - Nic Groom looks likely to feature for the Lions in Saturday’s Super Rugby encounter against the Stormers at Ellis Park (17:15 kick-off).
It was announced on Tuesday that Groom had signed a deal with the Lions until October 31, 2019.
The 28-year-old arrived in Johannesburg from English club Northampton Saints, who he joined in 2016 after making a name for himself at the Stormers.
With the Lions' first-choice scrumhalf Ross Cronje battling with a rib injury, Groom is set to play a part against his former team after it was announced that he had left Northampton with immediate effect.
The other scrumhalves in the Lions camp are Dillon Smit and Marco Jansen van Vuren.
Smit only recently returned to action after a long layoff due to a fractured ankle, while 21-year-old Jansen van Vuren is still inexperienced at Super Rugby level.
This season, the Lions have often opted for only one scrumhalf in their match-day squads and Groom’s arrival is a timely boost.
The Lions team for the Stormers clash will be announced on Thursday afternoon.
