Gelant: Bulls out to make amends for 2017

Cape Town - Bulls fullback Warrick Gelant says the team want to use their poor 2017 season as motivation for this year’s campaign.

The Bulls won only four of 15 games last season and finished second from bottom in the South African Group, with only the lowly Sunwolves beneath them.

But this year they have a new coach in New Zealander John Mitchell who is expected to bring about a change in fortune.

“Yes, everyone knows what happened (last year), but we’ve also used last season as our source of motivation," Gelant told Netwerk24.

Gelant made his Test debut in South Africa’s 35-6 win over Italy in Padova last November. He then scored his first Test try in the 24-22 defeat to Wales in Cardiff the following week.

The 22-year-old is in his third season of Super Rugby and is confident that 2018 will be one to remember.

“I’d like to be part of something special at the Bulls and the challenge firstly is to be better in Super Rugby this year. We’ve prepared well and I’m excited about the goals we’ve set ourselves.”

The Bulls open their Super Rugby campaign against the Hurricanes in Pretoria on Saturday, February 24 (17:15 kick-off).
