Cape Town - Stormers coach Robbie Fleck has no issues with referee Stuart Berry's handling of Saturday's Super Rugby clash against the Lions in Johannesburg.
The Stormers lost the match 29-22 at Ellis Park, and not long afterwards Western Province Rugby Union president Thelo Wakefield took to Facebook to voice his concerns over Berry's officiating in the match.
The news on Tuesday was that there would be no further action taken against Wakefield, but when Fleck was asked about Berry's refereeing on Monday his response was starkly different to the president's.
"At the end of the day we were beaten by the better team, and that’s the way we look at it," Fleck said.
"We’re certainly not going to look at it in any other way … we wouldn’t be doing ourselves any justice.
"We dug deep in terms of our analysis and we saw what was good and where we could improve and give the Lions credit … they were good … but we weren’t far off."
Fleck added that there was interaction with the referees before and after every game, including Saturday's.
"We do (interact) with every ref," said Fleck.
"We certainly engage with refs prior and post-game. Obviously that feedback is massively important to us as a management and as a group of players.
"We engage with all referees and we’re in constant communication with them because it’s part of our growth … and for them as well. It’s no different this week."
The Stormers now turn their attention to this weekend when they host the Reds at Newlands on Saturday.
