English club dismisses De Klerk reports

Cape Town - Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond stressed that press speculation about the signings of Faf de Klerk and James O’Connor was incorrect.

Recent reports suggested that the Premiership club was chasing the Springbok scrumhalf as well as the versatile Wallaby back.

According to Afrikaans newspaper, Rapport, the De Klerk was offered a three-year contract, worth R21m.

But Diamond has poured cold water on that, saying: "I've not spoken to either player and don’t know where the speculation has come from.

"We have announced several new signings recently and we are in negotiations with several more players. Once they sign a Sharks contract we will make announcements."

O'Connor is contracted to Toulon in France, where has been caught up in a cocaine saga, while De Klerk is playing Super Rugby for the Lions.
