Emery cited for horrific clash with Le Roux

Cape Town - Highlanders centre Jason Emery will appear before a SANZAAR judicial hearing after receiving a red card in his side’s 15-14 Super Rugby loss to the Sharks in Dunedin on Friday.

Emery is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) - Dangerous Tackling - when he made contact in the air with Sharks fullback Willie le Roux in the 12th minute of the game at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Le Roux jumped in the air to catch a kick. At this point in time Emery made contact with the Sharks player's legs and caused him to land in a dangerous fashion. After consultation with the TMO, the referee awarded a red card.

The case is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAAR Duty Judicial Officer (DJO) Chris Morris.

All SANZAAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to a Duty Judicial Officer hearing to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.

For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the DJO.
