Cheika to Quade Cooper: Leave Reds or forget Wallabies

Cape Town - Australian coach Michael Cheika has urged flyhalf Quade Cooper to leave the Reds if he wants to be picked for the Wallabies again.

Cooper, who has 70 Test caps to his name, is out of favour with Reds coach Brad Thorn and has not played any Super Rugby this season.

Speaking to Fox Sports show Kick and Chase, Cheika made it clear that if he wanted to play for Australia again, Cooper when need to find a new club.

According to a report on Rugby Pass, both the Brumbies and the Rebels have expressed interest in signing the 30-year-old, but he is determined to win his place back at the Reds.

"He’s been offered opportunities and I think he should take one – and I would like him to take one of them so he can get up there and be in the position," Cheika said.

"I’ve been watching his club footy games. It’s been really good actually. The standard of the comp in Brisbane – because I’ve been watching more games for that reason – it’s been outstanding.

"But (he needs to) even just go and get a couple of games at the (Super Rugby) pace. It goes up a level so then, when it comes to the Test, you’ll be ready to go."

Australia are next in action when they host three Tests against Ireland in June.
