Cheetahs skipper given time to recover

Cape Town - The Cheetahs will make a decision later in the week on whether captain Francois Venter will play in their final Super Rugby game against the Bulls in Bloemfontein.

Venter was injured late in last Saturday’s clash against the Sharks in Durban when his jaw struck Lwazi Mvovo’s shoulder in a tackle from the Sharks wing.

According to Netwerk24, Venter passed a protocol concussion test on Monday but the Cheetahs will only decide on Thursday whether he should face the Bulls.

Apart from a slight headache, Venter says he feels good.

“At this stage everything looks very positive. He passed today’s (Monday) test. But in the meantime he’s not allowed to take part in any contact sessions. He will have to undergo another test on Wednesday and I’ll give him time until Thursday before making a final decision,” said Cheetahs coach Franco Smith.

Should Venter be unavailable for Saturday’s clash, William-Small Smith should start in midfield.

Saturday’s clash in Bloemfontein is scheduled for 19:15.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
