Cheetahs sign deals with 7 midfielders

Bloemfontein - The Cheetahs have announced that seven centres, including captain Francois Venter, have signed new deals to continue playing in Bloemfontein in 2017.

Joining Venter in inking a contract is Ali Mgijima, William Small-Smith, Michael van der Spuy, Nico Lee, Lihleli Xoli and Tertius Kruger.

Captain Venter embarked upon his third campaign with the Cheetahs in 2016 after transferring from the Bulls following the 2013 Super Rugby season. The hard-running centre was a member of the South African Under-20 team that competed in the 2010 and 2011 Junior World Championships.

He made his debut for the Bloemfontein-based team against the Lions in February 2014 and has become a mainstay in the XV in recent years.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
