Cheetahs name youthful Super Rugby squad

Cape Town - The Cheetahs have announced their 37-man squad for the 2017 Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.

Coach Franco Smith has included four players - Justin Basson, Dennis Visser, Zee Mkhabela and Clinton Swart - with no Super Rugby experience in the squad, while there are also four Springboks - Hilton Lobberts, Oupa Mohoje, Uzair Cassiem and Francois Venter - in the group.

In a massive off-season blow to their chances, the Cheetahs lost lock kingpin Lood de Jager to the Bulls.

However, loose forward Boom Prinsloo, who missed the majority of last season through injury, has been selected

The Cheetahs, who will once again play in the Africa 1 Conference, finished a disappointing 14th in last year's tournament.

They will open their campaign at home in Bloemfontein against the Lions on Saturday, February 25 at 15:05.
