Bulls open cheque book for Kings hooker

Pretoria - Southern Kings hooker and SA 'A' selection, Edgar Marutlulle will join the Vodacom Blue Bulls for the Currie Cup Premier Division campaign, the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd confirmed on Wednesday.

They also announced the return to Loftus Versfeld of former Springbok Sevens, Junior Springboks and Blue Bulls age group flank, Shaun Adendorff, at the end of the current season.

The 24-year-old star flank is currently playing for Boland in the Currie Cup Qualifiers and helped the team confirm Premier Division status with a number of strong performances. Adendorff played in Pretoria as a junior before opting to join the Blitzboks in Stellenbosch. He has now successfully returned to XVs.

Marutlulle was the starting hooker for the Southern Kings this year, having previously played for the Leopards, Golden Lions and Lions in Super Rugby. His solid performances saw him gain selection into the SA 'A' side that played the England Saxons in Bloemfontein and George.

Commenting on the signings, BBC High Performance Manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg said. "This is exciting times for the Blue Bulls. Shaun won the gold medal with the Junior Springboks, then made us proud playing for the Blitzboks and is currently playing great rugby for Boland. We are so pleased to welcome him back in the Bulls Kraal at the end of the season."

Marutlulle, 28, will join the fray at the beginning of next month.

"Edgar has been one of the stand-out hookers this year and I am very pleased that he will be joining us. With Adriaan Strauss on Bok duty in the next couple of months, it was important for us to add to our depth with a high quality hooker and Edgar is exactly that. We have Jaco Visagie and Bandise Maku in the squad and Edgar will add some healthy competition and depth."
