Cape Town - Pote Human could be asked to step in as Bulls head coach if the Pretoria-franchise fails in its quest to persuade Victor Matfield to take up the role.
Netwerk24 reported on Sunday that Matfield said NO to the job he applied for due to family reasons and the long-term security offered to him by SuperSport as a pundit.
Why Matfield would've put his hand up for the job in the first place - or not ruled himself out of the reckoning earlier - isn't clear.
The report added that Bulls president Willem Strauss and new CEO Alfonso Meyer asked Matfield to reconsider, and the former Springbok lock would make a final decision by today (Monday) or early in the week.
Should the Bulls fail in their attempts to change Matfield’s mind, their Currie Cup coach Human may be tasked with the Super Rugby head coaching role.
Human was likely to have been one of Matfield's assistants and is currently taking charge of the team’s Super Rugby preparations.
Southern Kings coach Deon Davids was the other candidate interviewed for the role, but he is not the Bulls’ first - or second - choice it appears.
In the meantime, time is running out for the Bulls ahead of the 2019 Super Rugby competition.
Their first match is against the Stormers in Pretoria on February 16.
