Bulls, Cheetahs to 'share' highly-rated scrum coach
Cape Town - Former Springbok prop and current Cheetahs scrum coach, Daan Human, will join the Bulls coaching staff for the upcoming Super Rugby season in a unique first for South African rugby.
Human will assist the Bulls as scrum coach during the tournament for two days every week, with the remainder of the period spent with the Cheetahs in their PRO14 campaign.
Bulls coach Pote Human expressed his delight at having a man of Human’s calibre at his disposal: “I firmly believe that Daan will pay a major role in taking us forward. The great work he has done at the Cheetahs is obvious to see, and we are looking forward to him joining the Bulls family."
Xander Janse van Rensburg, high performance manager of the Bulls, believes that the arrangement between the two unions is good for the game of rugby in South Africa.
“This arrangement is a bold step for rugby in South Africa, and more importantly it shows the willingness of the teams to improve the game in the country. We must commend the Cheetahs for their enthusiasm and open-mindedness towards making this possible,” said Janse van Rensburg.
Janse van Rensburg's point was echoed by Harold Verster, the managing director of the Free State Cheetahs.
“The agreement with the Bulls is unique in South Africa and for the promotion of the performance of teams in South Africa. To have a scrum coach like Daan Human in both entities is a positive movement in the interest of rugby," said Verster.
The Bulls will face the Stormers in a pre-season friendly at Cape Town Stadium on February 2.
