Cape Town - The Brumbies sent out an ominous warning with their sixth straight win ahead of the Super Rugby quarter-finals with a comprehensive thrashing of the Reds in their all-Australian derby in Canberra on Saturday.

The Brumbies won 40-27 after leading 19-10 at half-time.
The Brumbies scored six tries through wings Andy Muirhead and Tom Wright, No 8 Lachlan McCaffrey, lock Rory Arnold, replacement forward Murray Douglas and a penalty try. Flyhalf Christian Leali’ifano added three conversions while replacement Ryan Lonergan also contributed a two-pointer.
The Reds replied with three tries by fullback Bryce Hegarty, replacement back Duncan Paia’aua and flank Liam Wright. Hegarty was also on target with all three conversions and a penalty, while flyhalf Matt McGahan also added a conversion.
The Brumbies picked up a full-house of five points for their victory which stretched their lead atop the Australian Conference to a yawning 14 points. The Brumbies finished the season in third place in the Overall standings, and will welcome the sixth-place finisher to Canberra in next weekend's playoffs.
The Reds left empty-handed and finished fourth and 14th in the Australian Conference and Overall log, respectively.
