    Bookies make Crusaders narrow favourites

    2017-08-03 09:54

Cape Town - The Crusaders win sneak a record eighth Super Rugby title in Saturday's final against the Lions - if bookmakers are to be believed...

Leading SA bookies Sportingbet have installed the New Zealanders as narrow 4/5 favourites, ahead of their hosts (19/20), while the draw after 80 minutes is on offer at 25/1.

The Crusaders, who won the last of their seven titles back in 2008, finished second in the overall standings, beat the Highlanders 17-0 in the quarter-finals and the Chiefs 27-13 in the semi-finals.

The Lions, who finished the regular season stage of the tournament atop the log, edged past the Sharks 23-21 in their quarter-final clash, before coming back from a 22-3 deficit to beat the defending champion Hurricanes 44-29 in the semi-finals.

Victory for the Lions would see them become only the second South African side (after the Bulls) to land the southern hemisphere's most competitive tournament since inception in 1996.

Kick-off at Ellis Park is at 16:00.
